What is IDB-1394?

The standard for FireWire on the road, someday!

By equipping vehicles with an IDB-1394 Customer Convenience Port (CCP), FireWire is on the road! With an IDB-1394 CCP, state-of-the-art audio and video capabilities planned for new vehicles can be used with FireWire enabled products - such as PDAs, laptop computers, video displays, CD players, DVDs, Playstation II or games. Easy to use. Just plug any of these devices to the vehicle's IDB-1394 CCP.

The 1394 Trade Association and the IDB Forum (Intelligent Transportation System Data Bus) jointly introduced a draft IDB-1394 specification defining the enabling requirements for 1394-equipped vehicles on September 19, 2000.

Stay tuned, initial demonstrations of IDB-1394 enabled vehicles are planned for the annual Convergence 2000 automotive electronics show during October.
